Shoppers win for being green

Margaret Noden of Nuneaton with her winning bag!
Being environmentally friendly has certainly paid off this week for six lucky shoppers in Nuneaton and Bedworth.  Just for being out and about sporting the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council sustainable bag the lucky residents won a  £10 shopping voucher!

The winners were Mrs Podmore of Exhall, Joyce Forster and Margaret Applegate of Bedworth, who were all spotted on the 14th August in Bedworth town centre.  Mrs Orton of Whitestone, Margaret Noden of Nuneaton and Mrs. James of the Maples, Bedworth, were all spotted on the 15th August in Nuneaton town centre.

Sarah Lloyd, Waste Education Officer says:

‘I thought this would be a good incentive for people to make sure they use their free sustainable bags.  The bags are a really useful size for doing your shopping so I was hoping to see people using them!  I braved the rain of this week and found three winners in Bedworth within ten minutes of starting to look, and Nuneaton I found the three winners in less than an hour.  All the winners have said how much they like the bags and how useful they are, which is great to hear.  I use mine every day!’

The popular bags were a very limited edition, with only 1000 made and almost all of them already gone! The sustainable bags were given out to residents on 7th and 8th August in Asda, Nuneaton and Bedworth Town Centre, with reminders to use them during the week of the 13th should they be spotted!

The bags carry the message of the 3R’s, designed by the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council graphics team to remind people to look after the environment.  With 1000 people now carrying this message whilst they are shopping, council officers are hoping that residents will start to take notice!
