Riverside car park temporary closure

Man Paying for Car Parking
Work is now underway on the car park behind the Town Hall in Nuneaton to increase the amount of parking spaces.  Currently this car park is used for employees of the Town Hall and Council House during office hours, and the public on evenings and weekends, but the redevelopment will see two car parks created.

One of these will be a short stay car park that will be open to the public (limited to two hours stay) and one will be a Council staff car park, which will also be open to the public between 5pm – 7am each day and at weekends.

The work involves knocking down an unused building and is expected to be completed by early September so there will be some unavoidable inconvenience in the meantime.  The Council ask that no cars are parked along Mill Walk (the street that runs between the back of the old Marks and Spencer building and the Town Hall) as it may block the access of work vehicles and as this is a restricted parking area, may lead to fixed penalty notices being issued.

The new car park will also contain a number of electric vehicle power points which will enable residents with environmentally friendly vehicles to top-up their battery life.

Cllr Danny Aldington, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development, said:
“The redevelopment of the car park will improve access for shoppers and visitors to the town and by incorporating the new electronic vehicle top-up points we are enabling and encouraging residents to be greener.”
