Nuneaton Ready to Switch-On
Christmas will officially come to Nuneaton this weekend as the festive lights are switched-on on Saturday December 3rd, following a day packed full of entertainment.
The town centre will be filled with the sounds of festive music belted out by local bands and performers. With OAK FM and the live stage in Church Street beginning at 10.30am and continuing all day, Radio Mercia Street Stars on Chapel Street (outside Ropewalk) and performances along Queens Road, the Market Place and at the front of the Town Hall the atmosphere around the town will be buzzing. Included in the entertainment line-up will be Phase One Steel Band, the Jaguar Land Rover band, Avon Jazz, Amy Cartwright, 4+1 Jazz and Bedworth Brass.
A special performance from local boy band Last Chance will take place from 3.30pm at the Town Hall steps, followed by Kirsty Anderson at 4pm leading to the main switch-on event and firework finale at 5pm followed by a short carol service with accompaniment from the Salvation Army band.
Don’t forget, not only is there a host of entertainment on offer but an award winning Street Market and a host of local and high street shops, making it an ideal time to make a start, or finish off, that Christmas shopping.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Dennis Harvey said:
“This year’s switch-on event is set to be the best ever. Town centre businesses have really come together and sponsored the fantastic street entertainment that will be offering up festive cheer all day.”
“The switch-on of the Christmas lights will be carried out by Santa and the Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth Cllr Neil Phillips, outside of the Town Hall. This will be a truly festive occasion and I would urge everyone to come along and join in the fun.”
Many shops are staying open late, Rope Walk and Abbeygate until 7pm and the Market until 6pm and surface parking is FREE throughout the town from 4pm on the day.
Entertainment has been sponsored by McDonalds, Haswell Shoes, Bostocks Butchers, Ross Hair, Hole in the Wall, MI Taxi’s, Toolbox, Phillies, Spicy Spud and Megabrokers.
