New Members for REC

Council Tenants and leaseholders will be pleased to hear that the Residents’ Executive Committee (REC) is now at full strength after the official appointment of two new members, John Foreman and Paul Roper.

The new members were elected following a postal vote, distributed to all Council tenants and leaseholders in the Homing In magazine last October. Overseen by the Council’s legal department, the votes were verified and counted with the results officially announced at the REC’s AGM held in December 2011.

Paul Roper who represents Nuneaton and John Forman who represents Bedworth joined the committee for their first meeting on Tuesday January 10 and are now keen to get involved and represent the Borough’s tenants.

They will join existing representatives Lynne Price, Mark Perkins, Ann Cox, Andrew Moore, Sheralyn Byrom, and Joan Simpson, who are dedicated to ensuring tenants and leaseholders have a voice.

Tony Lloyd, the councillor responsible for Housing, said:
“The Residents’ Executive Committee is a valuable asset to the Council, allowing us to see the wants and needs of our tenants and leaseholders, as well as providing them with support from people in similar situations.  I would like to offer a warm welcome to the new members on behalf of the Council and to take the opportunity to thank the group for the continuing hard work and dedication.”

Chair of the Residents’ Executive Committee, Lynne Price, said:
“We are a group of volunteers who are keen to get on with the job. We are all about empowerment and want to re-affirm to tenants and leaseholders that they have a voice. We always work closely with the Council’s housing department and are already developing a plan of work we want to cover in 2012/13.

“A key task for this year is to encourage more tenants and leaseholders to come forward to create a panel who will help improve housing services to provide excellent services to all customers.  If anyone is interested in taking part I would urge you to make contact with the Resident Involvement Team on 024 7637 6493 or email rec@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk
