Half term fun and games

After a highly successful 2009 for the Play Rangers, during which they celebrated a record 20,000 attendances, the team are now preparing to entertain even more of the Borough’s children and young people with an exciting line-up of activities for February half-term.

A week of adventures awaits those willing to scale thrilling new heights, with the opportunity to try out a fantastic seven metre climbing wall.  A trained den-building instructor will also be on hand to help build half-term hideaways, and those looking for a challenge can kindle their interest in the outdoors with a supervised fire-building workshop.

For those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust will be showing children and young people how to build their own bird boxes, helping to support local wildlife.  In keeping with the environmental theme, the popular Wild Man of the Woods will be roaming in full costume, with his stories and songs inspired by nature.

The Play Rangers also welcome back John the Juggler, who will be running circus skills workshops, and professional film company, Splats, who will be allowing children to create their very own blockbuster.

If you can barely contain your excitement, just wait for Thursday’s walk on the wild side with a coach trip to a secret location.  The trip will be exclusively available to children (accompanied by an adult or carer) who have attended every day of Play Ranger activities during February half term.

Councillor John Waine, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Communities said: “During this February half-term holiday, local children will have no excuse to use the words ‘I’m bored’, as they have a fantastic opportunity to get out and about in the main parks in both Nuneaton and Bedworth and have a great time, from scaling the heights, through wildlife activities to making a film. Come on down to the parks and have an awesome time!”

From Monday 15 February to Friday 19 February, the Play Rangers will be in Riversley Park (Nuneaton) and Miners’ Welfare Park (Bedworth) from 10.30 – 13.00 and 14.00 – 16.30 daily. Activities are open-access, children and young people are free to come and go as they please, however children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a parent or carer over the age of 18.
