Last Sunday saw the first episode of George Eliot’s “Felix Holt: The Radical”, being dramatised on Radio 4’s The Classic Serial. If you missed this first episode, you can catch it again this Saturday 30th June at 9pm, again on Radio 4, in part one of a three part series.

This is great timing since here in Nuneaton and Bedworth we are looking forward to the Scenes Revisited festival, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of George Eliot’s first work of fiction, “Scenes of Clerical Life”.

Councillor Ian Lloyd, Cabinet member for Planning and Development, says:

“It couldn’t have been more timely!  The Council and its partners in this Heritage Lottery Funded project aim to raise awareness of our great Victorian novelist, not only to locals but to everyone nationwide.  Listening to stories on the radio is a great way to learn about her writing and I’m really looking forward to seeing many events from September to celebrate our George!”

So don’t forget to tune into Radio 4 on Saturday and listen to this novel from 1866 by our famous daughter, George Eliot.  What better way to get an insight into her works!
Anyone interested in finding out more about the events during the festival should ring Roger Simmonds, Project Officer for Scenes Revisited on 024 7637 6372 or email tourism@nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk  or watch out on the Scenes Revisited website for updates: www.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk/scenesrevisited
