Miners' Welfare Park, Bedworth
Bedworth Miners’ Welfare Park is set to say goodbye to the aviaries over the next few weeks, as preparations take place to begin development of a new play area in the park.

The aviaries have been a feature of the park for the past 25 years and have housed a number of different bird species.  Work is already underway to re-home the current occupants, and once closed the structures will be dismantled to make way for a new state of the art inclusive play area.

Residents of the Borough will be pleased to hear that all of the birds have been found new homes; a parrot specialist in North West Leicestershire has taken on the cockatiels, private individuals have taken the doves and guinea fowl and finally homes have been found for all of the chickens and cockerels after working closely with a local wildlife organisation.

The new play area is being built using money from Warwickshire County Council’s Aiming High for Disabled Children: Short Breaks fund, and section 106 money, which is provided through developments in the Borough. Not only will facilities for young people be improved in Bedworth, the Council will also save money on the annual maintenance of the area, and the high cost of running the aviaries.

Bill Sheppard, the councillor responsible for the Boroughs parks said:
"Although it will be sad to see the birds leave the park, Bedworth will see one of the most modern and specially designed play areas in the whole of the county and will cater for all children.

"We have made sure that all of the birds have been re-homed in suitable environments, and they will be leaving the park in the next few weeks.

"The new development is definitely the way forward for Bedworth, with state of the art play facilities attracting families into the town centre, as well as saving money on the upkeep of the park."
