The 2009 Communities day was a huge success, with over 25 exhibitors and six performances on the Civic Hall stage making an enjoyable day for all that attended. Even a power cut couldn’t spoil the fun!
The event was extremely well attended with over 3,000 people from across the borough coming through the doors. All the activities on the day were packed out and the Main Hall had standing room only as people poured in to watch the performances on the stage.
At approx 11.20am there was a power cut which left the main hall in darkness, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone in attendance, and while power was restored many chose to enjoy the weather and outside entertainment which included Ivan Inversion the upside down busker. Others took in some of the upstairs entertainment which included animals from Twycross Zoo and art corner. Power soon returned and the show in the main hall continued, with even more crowds piling in.
There were many of the community’s familiar faces in attendance, with the Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth, and the recently crowned Carnival Queen and her maids enjoying the fun.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s community’s team would like to thank everyone who took part in the day, for exhibiting, performing or attending, and making the event the success it was.
Rachel Jackson, Communities Manager said “Community day was a resounding success and everyone who contributed really helped make it what it was. There was a great atmosphere, some fascinating exhibitions, and some very talented performers.”
