National Safe Business Award for Nuneaton

The partnership has had to undergo a stringent assessment of the work and strategy, involving audit trails and DATA protection issues. It is also measured on the success of the initiative, which has proved successful in reducing business crime in the town centre and making it a safer place for everyone. The award will be presented to the Mayor, Councillor Julie Jackson and members of the partnership at 12noon on Saturday 24th June in the Market Place, Nuneaton.

Councillor Dennis Harvey, Leader of the Council said “ This is excellent news for Nuneaton’s residents, visitors and businesses and shows how by working together with the police and businesses, a family friendly safe town has been achieved and recognised by the home Office. Congratulations to the retail crime partnership”

There are nearly 60 members in the Nuneaton ranging from large retailers to the small independents. They are all linked and communicate information to each other. Many are on the town centres retail radio system which links the businesses, the town centre CCTV control room and the police and enables contact between the partners to be quick and effective in the prevention and detection of crime. This, therefore, contributes a great deal in making the town centre a safe and crime free area for all to enjoy.

Peter Guillaume, Business Crime Prevention Manager with the Warwickshire Police said, “I would like to congratulate the Nuneaton Retail Crime initiative in gaining the Safer Business Award. All the partners, the retailers, local police and Borough council have worked very hard for the last 12 months to achieve this nationally recognised standard.”

If businesses who are not currently members and would wish to become part of the partnership and have the benefits of membership then they should contact Alan Ottey, Town Centres Manager on 02476 376597 for further details.
