Nuneaton and Bedworth in Bloom judges had a difficult time finding a winner of the schools competition, run annually by the Borough Council Parks and Countryside team. Schools are judged not just on floral displays, but on environmental initiatives, recycling schemes and most importantly the involvement of the children. Cabinet member for culture and recreation Cllr Neil Philips said today “This year the number of entrants has increased yet again, and it’s good to see some schools that haven’t participated before showing such strong first entries. I think that a lot of schools now realise the importance of recycling and green issues as well as the more traditional gardening. Well done to everyone who entered!” The judges said “Travelling around the schools is great fun, but we dread the end when we have to make the hard decisions! It was quite a struggle to visit all the schools in the two days, and this year judging has been harder than ever, with more entrants than in previous years and the range of activities impressive as always. We look forward to seeing what the schools come up with again next year!’ Staff and pupils from the winning schools are invited to attend the annual Nuneaton and Bedworth in Bloom presentation evening in September, along with winners of the other local competitions run this year.
