The Council will let its garages to residents of the Borough. If you are not resident in the district, your application will be rejected. Please note, Council Tenants take priority over Non-Council Tenants.
How to apply
- Complete an application form either online or download one below.
- A list of Garage Locations is available.
- Once approved ensure your rent is paid on time. View more information on our payment methods.
- Rents are currently £6.60 per week for Council Tenants and £7.92 per week for Non-Council Tenants.
- If you are in arrears, you will be notified in writing.
- If you do not pay the arrears, then you could risk losing your tenancy on your garage.
- The following terms and conditions apply, please view/download the Tenancy Agreement below for more detailed information on tenancy conditions.
Terms and Conditions
- It is essential that you do not have any rent arrears if you are a council tenant, otherwise your application will be rejected.
- You must be over 18 years of age to apply and preference will be given to tenants of Council dwellings.
The Tenant Agrees:
- To pay the inclusive weekly rent when due.
- To use the garage only for a vehicle for which the tenant is responsible.
- To keep the interior of the garage clean, and to be responsible for repairing broken door locks and lost keys.
- Not to carry on any business from, store commercial goods, petroleum, combustible or explosive products in, or make any structural alterations to the garage.
- Not to assign, underlet, or part with possession of the garage.
- To allow the Council's duty authorised officers, agents or employees to enter and inspect the garage during reasonable hours upon due notice being given.
The Council Agrees:
- To keep the garage in good repair and condition subject to Conditions of Tenancy.
It is mutually agreed that:
- The tenancy may be terminated by either the Council or the tenant giving at least one week's notice expiring at 12 noon on a Monday.
Ending a Tenancy
- The tenancy may be terminated by either the Council or the tenant giving at least one week's notice expiring at 12 noon on a Monday.
- Please ensure that you return all keys, include keys for barriers on the date of termination.
- Please ensure that any items that you own are removed from the garage before it is vacated and outstanding rent is paid.
Charges may be made if the Council have to replace locks, including barrier keys, remove any items left in the garage or there are any repairs needed which is not the result of normal wear and tear.
To swap a garage you will need to complete a new application form.
