The environment is a concern to all of us. We are constantly reminded, seemingly on a daily basis, about the adverse affect mankind is having on the world due to our lifestyles. This concern is also shared by ourselves as we signed and pledged our support to the Nottingham Declaration back in 2002. Since then we have developed an Environmental Sustainability Strategy and have now updated this to recognise our achievements, and make our new actions more challenging.
The revised strategy builds upon what we have already achieved within the Borough to help address climate change and limit our own, and our residents' carbon footprints. By working with our partners The Energy Saving Trust and Warwickshire County Council, we are able to minimise any adverse affects our services might have on the natural environment. We recognise that making small changes on a local level helps to affect the bigger picture on climate change.
The Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2010-2013 is split into twelve themes:
- External Collaboration
- Strategic Activities
- Community Engagement
- Housing
- Waste Management
- Energy Conservation
- Land Use Planning
- Transport
- Procurement
- Air Quality and Noise Management
- Biodiversity
- Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Policy
The Strategy is assessed through 89 performance targets. The Environmental Sustainability Group meets on a quarterly basis to ensure that these targets are being met.
