Household Waste Collection

Household Waste Collections
All households across the Borough are provided with a 240 litre wheeled bin which will be collected on an alternate weekly basis.  This bin should be used to dispose of all non-recyclable waste.  Residents have a dedicated collection day for all waste, which will only change during the Christmas and New Year period.

Black Bin Household Waste

Collections

  • Find out when your refuse will be collected using our search facility.
Please ensure that your black bin is presented for collection by 7am on your collection day, and that you return it to your property within 24 hours of your bin being emptied.
  • Any side extra waste will not be collected.
  • The lid of the bin must be flat and no rubble, heavy or bulky items in the bin.
  • Refuse will be collected on the same day each week, alternating between your black bin and brown lid and green bins, except when weather conditions are so abnormal it is not safe to use the refuse vehicles or over the Christmas and New Year period.
  • The refuse collector’s work as normal all bank holidays except for Christmas so there is only one disruption to service a year.
  •  If your black bin is not emptied for any other reason, for example due to major road works in the area or other access problems please ensure that your bin is left out until the crew can get access to empty it.

Wheeled Bin Assistance
We provide a service for the elderly or disabled to enable them to have their wheeled bin emptied.  The operatives take the bin from the property, empty it and return it to the property.  If this service is required, contact the refuse and cleansing section using one of the methods above and leave your name, address and telephone number and a member of staff will visit you and arrange for the service to be set up.

If you require a smaller wheeled bin, please contact us.

Application for a second wheeled bin
If there are five or more adults in your household or you have a large family that causes you to generate more than one wheeled bin load a fortnight you may be entitled to a second bin.

To apply for a second bin you must write to the Refuse & Cleansing Manager, St Mary's Road Depot, Nuneaton CV11 5AR, giving details of names and ages of each person in the house, or email us using the contact information at the bottom of this page.  We will notify you of the decision made.

The Council encourages all households to participate in the fortnightly brown lid bin collection of recyclables, and summer green waste collections and to use the Council's recycling facilities.

Looking after your wheeled bin
The Council provides households in the Borough with a 240 Litre wheeled bin for their household waste. Your wheeled bin should be large enough to contain all your fortnightly waste, and store it until the Council's refuse collectors empty it.

Your household refuse should be contained in the wheeled bin, with the lid of the bin closed. If the lid is open, it can be loosened or even ripped off by the vehicle's machinery.

In addition to your household waste you may put some garden waste in your wheeled bin, but please remember that items such as soil, bricks, concrete, heavy metals, timbers or carpet pieces should not be put in the bin. This is because such items can cause damage to the vehicle's mechanism, and may make the wheeled bin too heavy, causing it to topple into the refuse vehicle. A charge may then be made for a replacement bin.
