Nuneaton and Bedworth Local Plan 2006

What Is The Local Plan?
The Nuneaton and Bedworth Local Plan 2006 is the local level Development Plan Document that sets out how the land and buildings in the Borough should be used, providing a framework against which planning decisions are made. The Local Plan was adopted in June 2006 and its policies and proposals cover the period up to 2011.
Replacing The Local Plan
The 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act introduced a new development plan system for England which replaced Local Plans with Local Development Frameworks (LDF). The planning policy team is currently working on the preparation of a Local Development Framework for the Borough that will replace the 2006 Nuneaton and Bedworth Local Plan.
Transitional Arrangements / Saved Policies
The transitional arrangements that accompanied the Act allowed for the completion and adoption of Local Plans before July 2006. The arrangements also allowed for Local Plans adopted before July 2006 to be ‘saved’ for use as a framework for making planning decisions and also allowing local authorities time to produce their new LDF documents.
Certain policies were ‘saved’ for three years, however, by the end of this period, like most local authorities, Nuneaton and Bedworth was yet to prepare its LDF. Therefore, the Council applied to the Secretary of State to extend the period these policies were saved for. Policies within the Local Plan are now 'saved' indefinitely or until they are superseded by policies within the LDF.
