Statistics and Census Information
On 27th March 2011 the Office for National Statistics (ONS), asked every household in England and Wales to complete a census questionnaire.
There has been a census every ten years since 1801, except in 1941 when the country was at war.
No-one has yet found a better way to build a picture of a diverse and changing population.
Find out more about Census 2011.
The figures on this page are from the 1991 and 2001 censuses.
